There was this girl I knew. A waitress at a coffee shop I used to visit. I liked her because I thought she was truly devoted to her boyfriend. That kind of loyalty seemed rare and worth respecting.
One day she convinced a few friends of mine and me to buy a lottery ticket for the biggest jackpot at the time. All the guys bought their tickets from the store next door, and we started talking about what we’d do if we won.
When it was her turn, she said without hesitation, “If I win, I will leave my boyfriend, buy a jet, and travel the world with my lap dog.”
So much for love and devotion. The truth is, when money comes into play, loyalty disappears. It’s all just a game to see how much you can get before you move on.
